New York, 2021. La guerre des Corbeaux est terminée. Dans le sang et la poussière, New York renaît de ses cendres. La vie reprend : l’université de magie Brakebills rouvre ses portes et les speakeasies accueillent de nouveau les riches magiciens de l’Upper East Side tandis que les bas-fonds du Bronx enterrent leurs morts. Cinq ans de guerre et rien n’a changé : la magie la plus pure est toujours réservée à ceux qui vivent en Haut, tandis que les relents d’alchimie souillée ruissellent dans les ruelles du Bas. C’est ainsi depuis des siècles, depuis que la Ligne qui sépare New York entre eux a été tracée. Et dans l’ombre, pourtant, la révolte gronde. Les trahisons se préparent et seule la lueur d’une dague tranchera l’obscurité.
